Proud of This? is a powerful and emotionally charged 7″ record by Xenn, a thrash/metal band from Oak Harbor, Washington. Originally recorded during two distinct periods in the band’s history, early demos from 1993–1994 and reunion-era sessions from 2011, the album is both a sonic time capsule and a heartfelt tribute. With four intense tracks the record captures the raw energy of youth alongside the reflective weight of a band revisiting its roots nearly two decades later.

Released through 1332 Records the vinyl offers a gritty, analog listening experience. Each side of the record features a snapshot of the band’s evolving identity: Side A hits hard with aggressive riffs and urgent vocals, while Side B leans into darker, more psychedelic territory. The track “What Ever (An LSD Nightmare)” especially stands out, hinting at a chaotic internal world shaped by hallucinogenic experiences and personal struggle.

Beyond the music itself, Proud of This? carries deep emotional significance. The album was issued in honor of Xenn’s founding member Shawn Peterson, who passed away prior to the release. This dedication adds a layer of poignancy to the project. The contrast between the youthful aggression of the early recordings and the matured, yet still intense sound of the 2011 reunion reflects not just the band’s musical journey, but also its personal losses and triumphs.

The sound quality isn’t polished—in fact, much of the appeal comes from the rawness and unfiltered feel of the recordings. Fans of underground thrash, punk, or lo-fi metal will appreciate its authenticity. This isn’t an album made for mainstream acclaim or radio-friendly rotation; it’s a document of a band’s honest expression across time, and a collector’s item for those who value emotional weight and historical context over pristine production.
